How should I start with Xen source code modification

Hi all,
This is Kushal from India... I am a Final year computer
engineering student...I m working on a project - "Virtual Server
Resource Management"... In this project we are going to extract the VM
resources ( RAM, CPU utilization, Process table, Services utilized ) &
gonna disply them on Dom 0 OS.... In our project we are having
Fedora-8 as a Dom 0 and XP & Feodara-x as dom-U for Xen hypervisor...
For extracting the resources information from each Dom-U we need to
modify the Xen source code... So i have few questions about "Xen
Source Code Modification"--->

1. How should I begin with Xen source code modification ?
2. Which Development tool is best for Xen source code modification ?
3. Which material should I refer while modifying the Xen source code ?
4. Any tips from your side
