booting problem after xdotool install

I'm running centos 6.2 and I built and installed the latest version of the xdotool. I was then unable to bring up gedit. So I rebooted the machine and now it boots but hangs before it gets to the GUI. All I get is a black screen and a busy cursor and it will go no further. Help?
