Hey All,

I have an XCskies map profile setup centered on Cache Valley in Utah.  For the past 24 hours, XCskies doesn't seem functional.  There are multiple message "No Image Available" all over the map.

Is the XCskies system down?  Or, am I doing something wrong?

This is a problem with the NAM runs completing. It's being worked on
right now. Everything else should be fully operational.

All,

We just tracked down the problem moments ago. Turns out that someone in
operations for the NCEP NAM coarse model runs decided to remove an
output variable without notifying anyone. We've made the appropriate
changes on our end and will rerun the NAM out for next 3 days right now.
It will take a little bit of time to complete. Sorry for the
inconvenience. This is one of those situations where an upstream change
affects our operations unexpectedly.

Oops. Mistaken there. Turns out there was a planned Oct 18 change
documented which we somehow missed. It was our understanding that both
versions of the NAM would be available in parallel for some time after
the Fall 2011 new implementation. Looks like it was just swapped in place.

Bottom line:
1. The NAM dynamic core and physics schemes will likely improve the
accuracy of our soaring forecasts.
2. It may take more than an afternoon to make sure our forecasts are
producing the desired results.
3. The NCEP documentation is noted within the NWS TIN 11-16

The availability of NAM forecasts may be intermittent over the next 48
hours on XC Skies.
