With the XC season coming on for the US, I've started using XC Skies again and notice that forecasts are infrequently updated, missing forecast hours, pages are super slow to load and there doesn't seem to be traffic on this forum. Is this the end of XC Skies? I sure hope not--it has made picking the best days a lot easier than it used to be.Anyone else having these same experiences? Any word on the future of XC Skies?Scott
Hi,
An explanation and report of the current issue was sent in the other group thread.
What Iain explains here is the correct. If there are ANY operational issues that you run into, please email support directly (sup...@xcskies.com) so we can review immediately. This Google Group is for the soaring community in general and not monitored 24/7 in terms of support/help-desk issues.
At times compute nodes need a little help and hiccups can still happen given the way we have implemented XC Skies with our cloud provider. Obviously, we're not happy when anything goes wrong, but we do drop everything to get things back up and working. We've been redesigning the entire technical implementation behind the scenes over the last season and are very close to making the switch. We've also been hard at work with a MUCH needed refresh of XC Skies UI in general. I'll send an update to this group in another thread to outline a few new things within a week. (Please hold my feet to the fire on that if we don't get a post out by then!)
Cheers and happy soaring,
-Chris

I had started seeing the updates become a little outdated too. Anytime I see that happen now I send a note to Chris. Sometimes the virtual servers in the cloud datacenter he is using report healthy but are actually not. He recycles them and the forecasts start working again. The best monitoring system I have found are the people that use the service. Chris always responds quickly to such issues. If you see forecasts over a day old iâ send him a note.
CheersIain

I still get spotty functionality, sometimes better than other times.Â
The GFS forecast updates once, perhaps twice daily--look at the forecast hour (not shown in the mobile version but shown on desktop). This means that in the morning, I'm looking at a forecast made 21 hours out for that afternoon. That's yesterday's forecast, not today's. XC Skies used to update the GFS forecast 4 times/day and provide much more current data (therefore more accurate). It also has missing forecast hours if I look a few days out. Sometimes these gaps are filled in with data but other times there may be data for morning and evening but not afternoon. RAP forecasts seem to be similarly dated and not updated as frequently as in the past. I don't use NAM much so can't comment on that model. Forecasts are sometimes slow to load or non-responsive.
Nobody else is seeing any of this? Happens on all my browsers, all connections...not related to computer or software on my side.
