A customer asked me an interesting question today and I thought it was a pretty good idea, but I am not aware of any service that provides this.

He asked if I knew of any open source service that provides a list of high risk domains. For example, they don't want to allow access to cloud storage and would want to know if when a new service popped up.  I think most modern Web Filtering products will do this, but there current product is dated... .classic or maybe an antique.

Do you guys know of any open source sites that provide classification of domains by risk or service and it can be queried by API or something?

Thanks,

Mike

There is a company called Intel Security that might be able to help.  They run TrustedSource.org which might have such a list.

In any case, that list would be highly dynamic and probably would be best implemented using something like the GTI cloud for on-access reputation validation since even good site can go bad periodically.

Intel Security.... That allows me to query for a url, but it doesn't provide a list by category.  Maybe on the backend.  I hope the web is all clean since we are always washing it with Webwasher.

I came across this.  I have heard of Alexa, but never really worked with it.

The have a data api and allow 1,000 requests free a month.
