Hi X-Cats,
On Labor Day, my mind is usually on barbequing, spending time with my family, and enjoying my day off. This Labor Day is different. There is so much going on this year. I mentioned before that 2020 will definitely be a year that all of us will remember, and that continues to hold true. The pandemic, the fight for equality, the worldwide protests, the riots…and in recent days, the nation bore witness to something that occurred right here in our own home.
If only the world could be more like our team. We are proud of the fact that we are one of the most diverse and inclusive teams in FIRST. We practice gracious professionalism. We respect one another. We listen to one another, and we actually hear one another.
Yesterday, Rochester had its 5th day of protests. Some people have had their future taken away way too soon, but you still have a whole future ahead of you. The last time I wrote a message like this, I was encouraging you all to be safe. My message hasn’t changed. In fact, with things hitting so close to home it resonates even more – be safe, be wise, and be smart about any and everything that you do.
We have a meeting coming up this Wednesday, but if anyone needs to talk before then, we are only one phone call, email, or Slack message away. You have a whole family of mentors and peers who are willing and able to help and to listen.
