X-Cats meeting

Hi mentors,

Thank you for meeting afterwards, and thank you for helping us keep this right around 30-minutes.  We were laser-focused.

Our objective was to document observations and items, not solve everything in one sitting. 

Notes are below.

 

Agenda for 11/10/21

• Wilson Foundation

• Food: Is food all set for them now?
• Snacks are coming in for Commencement. Pizza is there. They have all been eating together! Cameron’s mom is organizing a parent snack run.

• School to School: Do we have a plan in place for getting students from one school to another?

• Going well, but today we had one kid wandered off go straight to Commencement.
• Parent wants to do a car drive to help the kids with transportation

• Wilson/Edison hallways:  What rules are in place for walking around the hallways?

• This week was better. We did not see many students wandering the halls.

• Leaving the meeting:

• Other than ensuring that we split the schools up at the end, are there other things that need attention?
• We did ok today, but we forgot to split the team up at the end

• Bus passes: Who needs them?

• Going well

• Team outing before kick-off: We skipped Ruckus.  Do we have any fun team building ideas before build season starts?

• Dave & Busters, bowling, go cart place, Club House.  Radio Social? Estimate 40.  Jeff S. is going to look up pricing. We can see what comes out of that.

• Busing to Edison for the season: any updates?  Any details to share yet?

• Still in progress.

• Busing to Spencerport for kick-off: Any details to share yet?

• Spencerport is not hosting kick-off this year
• Jackie will see if we can do kick-off at Wilson?

• Plan B can be Edison
• Plan C could be Daniel shop

• Can we invite 3838?
• Can we invite XQ?

• Does XQ Franklin need our help?

• They are in desperate need of a SW mentors. We need to spread the word to the SW community, or this team may fold. There are only 3 city teams left.

• Mentors need to call a number for access to City WIFI.  Jackie needs to send the list of mentors to RCSD so we can call the IT department.
• Fundraising: how will students get to / from Edison to sort shoes?

• Shared rides.

• Can we get a projector at the Edison site?

• Ask Sheldon Cox

• Registration:

• Are all mentors registered? 100% RCSD.  Jan sent a link that has a Database on Drop Box.   
• Are all students registered?

• November 20 Advocacy conference:

• Penfield sponsoring this for FIRST. Needs a couple of representatives.
• Vicki can go, but needs more support (mentors and students)

• Access to Edison: We are all set to go to Edison after hours. Sign in and let Mr. Scott know before a big event.  
• RocTheDay: closes registration on 11/10 closes for 11/30 voting day. Kay took care of registration! 
• New students applications:

• We agreed to accept more applications.

• Wilson Commencement

• Should they travel without a parent?

• Yes, if they meet the requirements and we have enough mentor/teacher support.  Same as years before, but we need to do a better job planning since our maximum number of middle schoolers was 5 or so, and now we are over 20.

• According to the sign-in sheet, we have 62 students total. 40 have been coming.

• Be wary of casual conversations with High Schoolers and Middle shoolers
• Have a conversation with each group with expectations.

• Foundation focus:

• Explain why we need both schools to make this team better and ensure that we stay around for many more years to come
• Remind them to be wary of conversations, etc.

• Commencement focus:

• Explain rules and expectations
• Explain reasons for staying on the team, goals, etc.

• Digital Drawing SW:    

• We need the list of software for laptops by Friday to Mr. Sheldon
