Dear team,
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at MOBTS. I have a rather hectic travel schedule and some uncertainties ahead, os I’m writing now to advise of a project that Laurie and I are about to being working on.
The focus is on adaptations of the XB principles - taking the CAO - classroom as organisation - concepts and exploring how and where it can be adapted to no-business contexts.
In effect how can XB/CAO teaching learning principles be applied in content areas far removed from the content of the current XB manual?
I have adapted it for a leadership course in Finland and - of course - Anne and I adapted the Introduction to Management manual from the XB approach.
Anyone who is interested in contributing to this project - which we hope to discuss while I am in the US in June - is invited to put your hand up, share ideas and ask questions.
Regards
Elyssebeth

I think there is great potential in engineering education applications.

Hi Laurie,

I have taught “traditional” XB to engineers, and also an “Operations XB” to engineers, which involved students interacting with a “model’ of an assembly line and distribution network.  But what I didn’t get to do, and what I think would be really interesting both to us as instructors and to the larger engineering education community (including the National Science Foundation Engineering Education Centers) is the application of an XB based Classroom As Organization that coaches students through an entire design cycle to manufacturing.  I’d like to see small scale “not for profit” design and manufacturing of items that are produced through a series of interacting XB CAOs as engineering students learn and practice a variety of skills from their respective fields.  My previous institution wasn’t able to muster the kind of collaboration to do anything like that, and UCMO is great at collaboration, but I’m not in Engineering here.  There are some places where this is a possibility, including https://engineering.purdue.edu/ENE/People/Faculty .  The Bell Academy http://ire.minnstate.edu/bell/index.php has an interesting program that incorporates work/study with distance education.  I’m not sure how exactly the distance education aspect works, but it seems like some parts of it would fit a CAO well.

Hi Ray,

does this mean you've taught it to engineers, or are just thinking it would be good to do so?

if the former, do you want in on this?

Laurie
