memory usage

We are running xbeach rev 2840 in instat 4 and 41 mode, compiled with netcdf and gfortran-4.5.

Calculating the wave energy spectrum requests in the excess of 3GB RAM for reasonable small domain 90x140 cells.

Is this expected and if so where can that be optimized as it seems to be excessive.
