to XBeach
Hi, my name is Hans and as the subject suggests, I am totally new to
XBeach; I will be using the newest version this summer for work and my
advisor-to-be wants me to get used to it before then, but I have no
idea where to begin. Hope I am at the right place.

So following is what I did so far: I downloaded everything from the
XBeach repository (https://repos.deltares.nl/repos/XBeach/) using
TortoisesSVN. I was told that this is the newest version.

Now, this is where I got stuck. I can't figure out what to do to run
(compile) XBeach. When I open [trunk/xbeach.exe] I get the following
inside XBerror.txt: "Error: missing required value for parameter
nx".

Opening up [trunk/xbeach.dsw], I get this warning in Visual Studio: "A
Visual C++ project of the name 'makeincludes.vxproj' already exists in
the current format. Would you like to load the existing project
instead?"

1)When I answer Yes, all the .F90 files are loaded to Visual Studio.

2)When I answer No, I am prompted again:

"The project 'makeincludes.dsp' must be converted to the current
Visual C++ project format. After it has been converted, you will not
be able to edit this project in previous versions of Visual Studio.
Convert and open this project"

i) Selecting Yes: The warning above ("A Visual C++ project ...") pops
up again.

ii) Selecting No: I get this "The project file 'I:\XBeachSVN\trunk
\makeincludes.dsp' cannot be loaded. Do you want to remove the
unloadable project from the solution?"

No matter what the combination of my answers is, the best I can do is
having .F90 files loaded to Visual Studio. Even then, I don't know
what to do with them.

By the way, I am using Visual Studio 2008 on Windows 7

I just want to see XBeach working.. Ultimately I want to run some
models with different input data and variables.

If anyone knows how to go about doing this, or knows where to find
answers, I would sincerely appreciate any input.

Thank you very much in advance.

hans,

no need to compile, you can run the exe
you need to define a params.txt to run the model.

i see you are at texas am. talk to jen irish,
nick cox, cheng wei,
