Hi Liz,
Our group has been event tags, rating and notes to "annotate" events. This type of annotation can be added to events using fields in the Event palette, and is exported with the "Export CSV" event action. Notes are free form text and can include spaces. Tags have some restrictions as far as special characters: for example, spaces are used to separate multiple tags, and asterisks are used to indicate primary tags (see below).
Beware, tags and notes are not automatically entered when you type them in. Tags are entered by pushing the "Tab" or "Enter" key on the keyboard, or mouse clicking outside the tabs field. Notes are entered by mouse clicking outside the Notes field. A field flashes blue as the entry is entered.
XBAT has some additional functionality involving tags, ratings and notes.
You can filter which events are displayed in the Events palette by typing one of your tags or ratings in the "Search" field. Note that the search field acts on the entire line of the Events list in the Events palette.
The same tag, rating or notes can be entered into several events at the same time by selecting several events in the Events palette (while holding down the Shift key or Ctrl key on the keyboard) and then typing and entering tags, ratings and/or notes.
Multiple tags are supported in XBAT. In the tags field in the Events palette, spaces are used to parse what you type into multiple tags (for example tag1 tag2 tag3). Multiple tags are all exported with the "Export CSV" event action in the same column with a "|" between multiple tags in each event. However, multiple tags are not displayed in the XBAT browser or in the Events list in the Events palette unless one of the multiple tags is flagged as the primary tag be making its first character an asterisk (for example tag1 *tag2 tag3).
I hope this helps.
