Hey all,

I wanted to use xauth to detect a gmail and yahoo session, but it
looks like those services are not participating yet, is that the case?
Are the only services available right now just the two demo apps on
meebo.com/xauth?

Any ETA on when gmail, yahoo and hotmail will be part of the game?
Because right now xauth is kind of useless unless I'm missing
something.

Thanks in advance,

Pat

Hi Patrick,

Yahoo thinks that Xauth is very interesting, and we're working with many of
the other folks on XAuth to find a way to deploy it. However, I do not have
a estimated date as to when we'd have it in production.

If you'd like to detect Google users, you can use OpenID x-has-session API:

(see the openid.ui.mode parameter)
http://code.google.com/apis/accounts/docs/OpenID.html#Parameters

Thanks
Allen

I want to use xauth so that I can get rid of the nascar and just put
one login button by detecting whether the user has a session on yahoo
or google or else. To ask for the x-has-session I need to know the
user openid already.

As Allen said, XAuth in many respective is more of a technology demo than a launched solution that solves the NASCAR.

For example, just because the user has an active session on one provider doesn't necessarily mean that they'll want to use that provider to sign in.

It's issues like that that need to be ironed out before we can fully embrace the use of a service like XAuth. That's also not to downplay the interest in such a solution, but it does appear that there's still a bit of due process needed in order for the service to realize its potential.

This is as good a time as any to repeat the invitation for Mozilla Labs Night, this Thursday, in Mountain View.  We've invited Meebo to come over and talk about Xauth, and we'll be talking about and demoing some Firefox tech as well.
