We have open sourced wavespectra, a python library we have been developing to process ocean wave spectra based on xarray. The code was implemented as DataArray and Dataset accessors and has been designed to:

  • Calculate several integrated spectral parameters such as Hs, Tp, Tm, Dpm, among others.
  • Read and write wave spectra in different file formats such as SWAN ASCII or WW3 netCDF.
  • Partition spectra using different techniques.
  • Reconstruct spectra based on statistics from partitions.

The code is fully open source, and is freely available to be used and modified. Any contributions from the community would also be welcome.

Documentation can be found here.

Hi Raphael,

Have you seen this package?

There's a lot of overlap between oceanwaves and wavespectra. Maybe they could even be merged...

Cheers,

Caio

Hi Caio,

thanks for sending this - it definitely looks like there is a lot of overlapping there. It would be a good idea merging those two!

Cheers,
Rafael
