I have been working with the UR10e for some time now and wanted to share this as I struggled with this at first.
When i program I connect a mouse, keyboard and external screen.
This way programming/commenting/navigating Polyscope becomes WAY easier AND faster.
I still use the Teach pendant for controlling/positioning sometimes + its emergency stop.
I included a pic of my setup below.
This can also be used in sessions with multiple people working on the bot, so everyone can see what is happening. (group work/seminar/training)
Connecting a mini display>display cable allows the use of an external screen.
But this will not simply work (similar to a laptop/pc), as the controller checks if an external screen is connected whilst booting.
Also having this cable connected from the point of booting the controller will cause issues. (teach pendant not displaying, nor your screen displaying)
The way to connect an external screen for the UR10e (all e-series?) is:
1) Setup a monitor with the display end of the mini-display>display cable connected.
2) Have the mini display cable disconnected when pressing the power button on the teach pendant.
3) The fan of the controller will whir (make a noticeable sound).
4) When this sound ends, simply plug in the mini display cable into the controller. (I assume this is when the controller checks its ports)
5) Your teach pendant will flicker and duplicate its screen to your monitor.
I hope this proves helpful to someone.
Cheers,

Please bear in mind(from the manual); The Mini Displayport supports monitors with Displayport and requires an active Mini Display toDVI or HDMI converter to connect monitors with DVI/HDMI interface. Passive converters do notwork with DVI/HDMI ports.
Hi,
This is a great tutorial, thank Tony.
I have another trick to display the pendant on screen and connect a keyboard and a mouse.
At Robotiq we use "Insights" software. It is full of real-time tracking of production robots but it also helps during the programming phase.
Here is the trick:
-Connect to the robot from a computer web browser with Insights "Remote Access" feature.
-Once you are connected ( with safety software on the USB key and safety paring password ),
You get:
=>A full view of the pendant
=>A full control of the pendant
=>Access to the robot as if you were next to it
=>Possibility to add 1 or 2 webcam to view the motion remotely
This being only part of the benefit you gain using Insights.
However, both way works great.
Enjoy using you UR.
Enjoy even more tracking its performances remotely with Insights tools.
Regards.
Built with the future in mind, the e-Series is designed to grow in capability alongside your business through the Universal Robots+ platform, taking on new tasks and finding new uses, so you will always be able to stay ahead of your competitors.
With the ability to automate tasks up to 10 kg with no compromise on precision, the UR10e Robot has a reach radius of 1300 mm. This enables it to carry out tasks like packaging and palletizing in facilities where there is a larger distance between different operating areas.
Forget programming school. With Universal Robots Academy, anyone can become a robot programmer. Save on the costs of a professional programmer with Universal Robots. Our patented and intuitive 3D-interface allows anyone within the production facility to become a robot programmer even without prior experience.
Reduce robot deployment time from weeks to hours with Universal Robots. Our cobots do not require special electrical installations and can be connected to any regular power outlet. An intuitive user interface enables easy set-up, installation and integration into your production line.
Explore the possibilities of robotic deployment with Universal Robots. Our cobots are lightweight, space saving and easy to re-deploy to multiple applications without changing production layouts. They can be moved between tasks quickly and are able to reuse programs for recurrent tasks, giving customers the flexibility to automate multiple manual tasks within one production facility even with just one cobot.
Our cobots are able to take over strenuous tasks in dangerous or dull environments. With our safety features, you can fuse the best of human ingenuity with robot competency for accelerated productivity and growth.
Universal Robots makes robotic automation an option for small and medium enterprises, small batch production runs and other set-ups where traditional solutions may be too expensive. Firefighting equipment manufacturer Task Force Tips, USA, is an example where the safety guarding and inflexibility associated with traditional robotic solutions hindered the effectiveness of automation.
Beacon is a smartphone app that uses plain shop language to teach the Cobot Welder without robotic knowledge. Beacon lets your welders program our cobot in minutes. Often, in less than 1 minute!
Simply enter the weld parameters in the app and manually guide the cobot. Beacon automatically populates the weld points by pressing the teach button. No teach pendant and specialist knowledge required!
Our Cobot Welder can weld far faster than any human (up to 90 IPM), dramatically boosting your welding capacity. Add in the near-total elimination of rework, and your shop can scale like never before. No human can match the sheer output of our Cobot Welder, especially after the fatigue kicks in on large-batch jobs.
Welding makes you money, not using the software. Beacon eliminates the clutter and robotic jargon, allowing your welders to use the cobot immediately. You can edit existing parts and create new ones in mere minutes without the programming being a production bottleneck.
Depending on your production factors, cobots can 2-10X your fabrication productivity. Most shops see 2-4X the production output, saving them significant labor hours and freeing their staff to work manually on tasks that matter the most. Read our case studies to get a better idea of just how powerful cobots can be.
Our Cobot Welder can complete most repetitive welding tasks, but the part suitability depends on the part size, material type, and more. The best way to know for sure is to reach out to us for a demo so we can best assess your application needs.
Most importantly and just like manual welding, your welders need proper PPE. You'll also want to make sure you protect your welders with arc flash protection like you do for your manual weld stations. And don't forget fume extraction.
The format is the same as in previous chapter and as documented in the Script manual, but the teaching pendant is not used for programming in this example. On the robot a server on TCP port 30002 is running to receive script commands and thereby control the robot.

For our project we collaborated with SiFi Labs to create and implement a system to showcase how you can use their BioPoint biosensors to control a robotic arm. This was quite an ambitious and daring project. As this project was a collaboration between us MCT students and the informatics department we wanted to work on a project which could combine our different fields of expertise.
