Ver. 3.5 installs smoothly but does not zoom.

Only two screens are shown:

1) Opening Mandelbrot Set
2) Totally Black.

Does anyone have an idea how to make this work on Mountain Lion?

Thanks!

I'd not tried xaos since upgrading to Mountain Lion. Just checked and I too find the same problems.

I can confirm all of these problems and that, in general, XaoS is completely broken on Mountain Lion:
  • Can't zoom
  • Can't turn on the palette emulator/palette cycling
  • Even just drawing the basic Mandelbrot is glitchy
I like software and fixing things! I'd love to help! But yeah, not sure where to start. I am very interested in preserving XaoS for all OS X-kind

Dear Mac Users,
I'll try to find a student in Google Summer of Code 2013 to fix the Mac related problems. Until then, it would be nice to have a full list of the known bugs in the recent Mac versions. Does somebody want to create such a list and send to the mailing list?

Thank you, Zoltan

Hi group:
I'm wondering if Xaos works well on PCs...like with XP?
I hate windows and PCs, but my desire to get back into Xaos is driving me to find a cheap used machine that can run this program. Thats how desperate I am!

Why wouldn't you use Linux or FreeBSD then?

Hmm
I've been considering partitioning my HD and trying something like that. Is there a particular release that is known to go well with Xaos?
To answer your question, I guess there is nothing stopping me from trying.

Yes, for example, Ubuntu 12.10 has a working version of XaoS-3.5. The X11 and the aa driver are built-in.
Best, Zoltan

Do you mean to say Ubuntu already has Xaos built into it? Thats very encouraging!
You guys are great! Now I'm very glad I joined this list...Thanks...Tim

Yes, but I do think that the major Linux distributions also have built-in packages for XaoS,
Fedora, OpenSuSE and Mageia can also be used out-of-the-box. ;-)

No need to resort to threats :-)  xaos is available on MacPorts (www.macports.org), and runs under X11.  The difficultly level to install MacPorts and X11 from scratch is probably beginner/intermediate.

Install xaos:  sudo port install xaos
