Fix for backwards pointer-following when zooming out?

It seems to me that the pointer following is backwards when zooming out. I.E. if I move my pointer to the left when zooming in, the image moves left. If I move my pointer to the left while zooming out, the image moves RIGHT. This seems incorrect/unnatural to me. Is there a patch (or setting) to make it (zooming out) behave the way I think it should?
