You will likely need to implement your crack in the geometry itself...
buliding the solid model with a small crack in the features.
Or you can do it manually by displacing nodes. Look up NMODIF, and you
might need to use a MODMSH,NOCHECK
Finally, while meshing... if you want to force a wedge element at a
particul location, that's going to be tricky. An easy way is to make a
triangular imprint on the face of the volume, seed mesh it with the
mesh200's using the triangular option, then mesh the adjacent areas
normally. Sweep the meshed area into solid elements.
But, I'm not sure why you could need this...
If you want to alter an existing mesh, for only one elemnt, or have a
nonsweepable volume, etc, you *could* do this manually, by collapsing
out nodes of the adjacent element so that the element is formed into a
prism shape. Note that in this case, the element will use the same node
for several locations -- look at the help on the SOLID185, and you will
see the O and P use the same node, as does K and L. Thus EDELE the
exsiting element, then form new ones in its place using the E command
and the existing nodes.

i m working to findout stress intensity factors(KI,KII and KIII) of a 3d
crack present on a thick rectangualr plate.Analytically i have solved it
but i want to find out its sol'n in Ansys.For that i have read the

singular element(solid95 or solid186 with wedge shape option).And how
can i genrate crack at the free surface of plate. so what ever ur
