Since drinking began, people have made toasts to others health, wealth, new babies, new jobs and anything else you can think of. You may end up in a situation where you have to give a toast and your audience doesn't speak the same language as you.

Here are simple, non-offensive toasts in many languages. These will keep you out of trouble! Here is a list of perfectly acceptable toasts:
Australia-Cheers!
China-Kan pei! (bottoms up)
Denmark-Skal! (a salute to you)
Finland-Kippis! (Cheers)
France-A votre sante (to your health)
Germany-Prosit (cheers!)
England-Cheers
Greece-Stin ygia sou (to your health)
Ireland-Slainthe is saol agat (health and life to you)
Israel-L'chiam (To life)
Italy-All tua salute (To your health) or Cin-cin (All good things for you)
Mexico-Salud (Health)
Poland-Na zdrowie (to your health)
Portugal-A sua saude (to your health)
Romania-Noroc (Good luck)
Scotland-Slainte mhoiz (good health)
Spain-Salud (to your health)
Russia-Za vashe z-dorovye (to your health)

Keep your toast short and simple. Keeping it short makes it less likely to make mistakes and potentially embarrass yourself, friends, spouse or your company.

Before you leave on your business trip or your foreign guests arrive, research what you plan on saying. It may be taken as an offensive statement.

Difficulty: Easy
