The setup I put in with the engine was a standard with brand new
clutch plate and pressure plate. The flywheel is a lightened Tipo that
has been modified to take the X clutch - I would have liked to use the
slightly bigger Tipo setup but the splines were wrong for the gearbox
shaft.
Any ideas or experiences?
Thanks
Dylan
I had a look at the recomended uno turbo conversion article and it
only specifies the uno clutch
...by the way - what are youre engine specs? im interested if youre
getting that much power from a 1500...
It is a 1600 Tipo, everything lightened/balanced/weight matched,
skimmed and cc'd head, deshrouded valves, very lumpy cam, twin 40
DCNF's, 4-2-1 extractors, very free flow exhaust.
All the hard and expensive bits (apart from final assembly and fitment
mods) were done by the cars previous owner so I take no credit for
them. He is an aircraft engineer and cared a lot about how the engine
was built and you can really feel it in how smooth it runs.
I have not had it on a dyno but it *should* be making near 100hp at
the wheels, for laughs we did some 0 to 100k times the other day and
even with the clutch slipping and 2 of us in the car we could do it in
9.4 seconds, and it pulls unbelievably well in the mid to high
range...
I have asked about the clutch on a couple of other forums, basically
everyone is saying to take in the standard clutch and get it uprated
by a shop that specialises in it.
Thanks
Dylan

So I adjusted it and the problem has gone away....I don't know whether
to be amused or sheepish.....
....and I bet Mrs Ladaspeed was pleased to know that the clutch
slipping problem wasn't **in ANY way** related to her ;-)
PS: finally got to looking at your link on oldschool...really
interesting to see what youve been up to. man you make some good
progress. mine just sits and waits for 'the day' in the garage...(in
the meantime it undergoes limited amounts of a "factory weight-loss
program") - I was interested by the comment about aircraft grade rust
repairs by the previous owner of yours - are they any good? id be
interested to know what process/products you/the previous owner has
used to keep the r.u.s.t. at bay and if its any good...
There is a chance that the car has been factory galvanised, as i
believe that (at least initially) some series 2 cars that were sold in
the UK had some sort of treatment done when they realised how bad the
rust issue was. My car is an early series 2 and came from the UK
originally as far as I know. The lack of serious rust would tend to
bear this out.
There are a few spots where it could probably do with a tidy up, but I
am extremely reluctant to start on that business as it is always 10
times worse than you expected. I would imagine that the car will be
off the road for a minimum of 3 months if and when I start to look at
that tiny spot....a job for much later.
