My back shocks on my X19 need replacing before I get a WOF.

Anybody now of a supplier how has some?

Looking at the options of fitting inserts or buying some struts.

Also any info on fitting inserts would be handy and part numbers used.
Found some info on the net, but wondering what people in NZ have done
and where they got their bits from.

Hi Doug

I recently modified my fronts to use inserts as the springs were not
captive, the backs had already been done. All I did in essence was
weld the thread and nut assembly from a 128 strut onto the cut off
X1/9 tube, then used an insert with the shaft modified for the X top
hat. It was relatively easy to do and I have had no issues with the
mod. The hardest bit was finding the 128 struts....

I am thinking of uprating the springs in the back of mine as they are
a bit soft, if I do I will check the part number of the insert while
the struts are out, although I may be able to find out what it is
anyway.

Thanks
Dylan

Found the part numbers for the inserts....

Fronts = Monroe GT Gas Pt No 25-0826 (pretty sure that these are a VW
golf front)
Rears = Monroe gas inserts Pt No MG864M

I checked this out in November. BNT Automotive can source KYBs - they
quoted me $95 each. There were also sets listed on both UK and US Ebay
sites. If you can get them from BNT then that should work out slightly
cheaper. Freight for the US and UK is the killer. By the way springs
are also available in the UK and I have the specs for uprated road
springs if anyone is looking to get some made here let me know as I
would be interested also. Cheers PeteR

FYI see my Exxys specs listed on my profile on this site:

Im running Jamex springs and KYB shocks all round -handles v well and
is firm but not harsh.

The springs came with the car so not sure where they came from, and
the struts have had a threaded collar added to similar description as
Dylan (Ladaspeed) above except no modification to the gas insert
(shaft) was necessary

I updated my front KYBs last year from Mal at Dino in Cambridge =was a
v good price :)
Cheers

I was in supercheap earlier today and they have KYBs on special - 3
for the price of 4. At $129 each that's about the same as BNT. The KYB
part number is 363017 - both front and rear.

Hi Pete,

I went into supercheap this morning (Dunedin Branch), asked about the
KYB 363017, and they quoted me $164 each. Which branch quoted you
$129?
363017 are inserts correct? Do they come with the top nut that needs
to be welded onto the strust?

I am thinking of just getting complete KYB GR-2 struts at the moment,
as they are not much more expensive, including freight to NZ.

Hi all, I had a look and I am running KYB 363017 GR29 inserts from Mal
Simmonds his price was better than supercheap. I hacksawed off the
bottom flare to fit them in otherwise they were about 4mm too tall.
Hope that helps,
Anthony

I was told the 363017 was the complete shock GR2 shock. It was the
Supercheap branch here in ChCh (Cranford Street) that were offering buy
three get the fourth free and their list price was $129.00 each. As I said
though, BNT Automotive confirmed in Nov they could get some for me and would
charge $95 each (although we have a trade account). I checked again and
there are full sets listed on UK Ebay through a dealer. At this stage mine
are in good condition so I'll focus on springs.

I phoned Supercheap Cranford street branch today, asked for price for
KYB 363017 as was told $340.95 for 2. I think you might find the
363017 is an insert and the full strut is KYB 233004. Pete can you get
me some full struts for $95 each? Can you find out.

Doug,

I'll go in and talk to BNT and check prices. Shoot me your cell phone number
and then we can communicate by text. I just went on the KYB.com online
catalogue and you are right it comes up with KYB 233004 so I'll ask for
these specifically.

Cheers
