I just posted a series of short articles from Nature called
"Milestones In Gene Expression." Almost every short article describes
something we have talked about in lecture. It is written at a
textbook level (rather than for a specialist audience), so it might be
a nice supplementary study-guide.

Among the breakthroughs described:

- Jacob and Monod's work on lac repressor
- X-inactivation in mammals
- Positive control at the lac operon by CAP
- Characterization of the promoter of the lac operon
- Sigma factor and how it specifies transcription start site
- Gene silencing by DNA methylation
- Chromatin structure - actively transcribed, silent, and the role of
histone tails in determining chromatin structure
- Specificity of Sequence-specific DNA transcription factors
- How enhancers in eukaryotes work from a distance
- Imprinting, and how it matters whether certain genes are inherited
from mom or dad.
