Here are the specifics:
July 20-23 (Thursday-Sunday)
Kids free with a paid adult admission, all others bring a car payment
Cast of Lost will be there, among many guests. There are classes in
film making, artists teach kids how to create comics; there are more
gaming booths than you can visit in a day - when you want to get
serious, a nearby hotel hosts an entire floor of game suites dedicated
to different platforms and titles. Other guests include Ray Bradbury,
over 300 published cartoonists and authors, stars of dozens of sci-fi
movies and tv series, most current games and design houses have booths
and are available for play, plus four days of stumbling into just about
anyone from the entertainment industry.
My son and I once found a lone Japanese man sitting in an empty booth
with a stack of Pokemon cards. We tried to talk to him and he smiled
and reached down, handing us a selection of oversize game cards, which
he authographed - other people joining him in the booth revealed the
man was the creator of Pokemon! Those cards are just one example of
the magic that happens at Comic-con. You'll leave each day with a bag
so full of freebies that you'll need to use their complimentary sherpa
service just to get all of your loot back to the car.
www.comic-con.org has all the details. I'll be there with my kiddos on
Friday, before the absolutele madness of the weekend causes the
Convention Center to descend into a steamy cauldron of chaos and
half-nude cosplayers. Dernit.
