2018 is almost gone, I've been wondering how many of you all still have the Lorei and it's working?

I still have mine and is alive a kicking, getting good prints, it throws a tantrum from time to time.

Everything is stock I just I replaced the original dark glass with a mirror and made a lot of difference, a few weeks ago I had to replace the proximity sensor.

I got a Creality CR10S a month ago and the Lorei is way faster but the Creality print quality and resolution is far more superior, I wish I could reach that on the Lorei.

always running
upgrade bowden tube and bondtech BMG extruder
add X and Y stepper cooling fan
i only change a 30mm fan but in a near futur i will need to change a 40mm fan and maybe 1 or 2 stepper motor

my biggest projet is a GAZZ 66 cabin for a 1/10 rc truck
i made the 3d drawing  and print it in 12 parts
they need some adjustment but its really good for the dimension and the printing time(60h)

happy new year for everyone

small precision for the pics
the parts are not glue together for now
so they fit better when hold correctly in place

Your resolutions look way better than mine, I wonder if the BGM extruder or any of your other upgrades has something to do.

What profile/ slicer are you using?

hi Carlos

i m using the simplify3d slicer  with resolution at 0.1mm for top layer , 0.15mm for the rest and most support at 0.3mm except near the part on this project
i m also using the certified PLA filament from Filament.ca, the best for me until now at 30$can/kg

the bondtech BMG extruder has a gear ratio  of 1:3 , a dual geared wheel to hold the filament  and the one a installed are only for 1.75 filament
so yes it got a lot of power to push the filament,  less than the bondtech QR (1:5 ratio) but more than enough to do the job
no more filament grinding or skip

blue bowden tube are suppose to offer less resistance to filament
the silicone socks must help to keep temperature stable
my 2 cooling fan keep the stepper motor around 40 Celsius if my memory is good and this for a 15h print  job
i add 2 filter before the extruder(duo)  to keep the dust away too

i think all of these improvement give lots of help but the filament in first and extruder in second made the biggest difference in printing quality for me

the rest of the printer is stock for now

Still using (and fighting) with mine. I am considering buying the TL-D3, the only one that could match the specifications of the Lorei Duo according to me...

Thanks for sharing the L-D#, I didn't know about it.

I needed a second printer like right at that moment so I fired up craigslist and found a brand new CR-10S a few minutes from home and it's been excellent, way better prints that the LOREI right now, I'm going to try to recalibrate the LOREI to achieve the same quality.

Right now I'm using both printers at the same time, I'm hoping I can get an original PRUSA MK3 later.

Just started to play again with my Lorei (waiting for the delivery of my new TL-D3), I read this page: https://www.prusaprinters.org/everything-about-nozzles-with-a-different-diameter/. And ordered a 0.6 nozzle to give a try. This is amazing to see how much this can cut down the printing time. I am currently printing with 0.45mm layer height. The model was expected to get printed in 5h40 with the 0.4 nozzle and 0.25 Layer Height . Now only 1h52. And the output print looks pretty good. My advice: give a try to bigger nozzles!!

I tried bigger nozzles with the Lorei but I failed miserably, I had to go back to the.4mm.

Did you created a different profile?

I use Cura. I’ve just edited the machine settings and changed the nozzle value for the extruder 2 where I placed the 0.6 nozzle. That’s it.

I still use mine on a weekly basis, modified the frame a lot to make it print faster and get rid of the Z wave, not much left of the original.  It's not pretty but it works great.
The head is now a old style Chimera to reduce the head weight and the carriage is a modified version of the Tactical X found Thingiverse.  Also by moving the bed probe closer, it fixed the weird bed leveling problem.

still running strong with mine. duo here, but i removed the second hotend -  with it in place i was far more likely to have a nozzle hit the print, and i found that dual extrusion wasn't everything i wanted it to be.
i've printed a couple dozen kg of filament so far. lots of print time.

i slice with cura, sometimes with cura engine in astroprint, and keep it connected to the cloud via astrobox all the time.

only upgrade: a 110v 250mm x 250mm heat pad for the bed. heats up the bed to 70C from ambient in 60-90 seconds. brilliant. that, plus "magigoo" gives me great first layer adhesion. i mostly print MakerGeeks PETG at 255C.

oh, and i bought some range of nozzles. i don't consider this an upgrade - just a myriad of nozzle sizes to swap in for specific types of prints. printed my wife a large Tardis themed jewelry box the other day (maybe 8" tall, 5"x5" base i', guessing). 16 hour print with a 0.8mm nozzle. yay for big nozzles!

Is that even a lorie still? Great ideas I might use a few of them.

Yeah, it's still somewhat a lorie, just a stable one that doesn't vibrate itself apart when you speed it up.  I was originally planing on installing a top beam but found that it was very stable even on taller prints.

@jon: great customizations! But how do work the second z axis, there is no motor, right? And I see that you have upgraded the Y axis too. Could be great to share with us some closeup pictures of your super Lorei!

yeah, if you've got any documentation on the mods you made (even coarse grained descriptions) i think we could all benefit from them.
my Lorei is effectively still 'stock' and i'd really like to make some improvements to it. picking up from your existing work would help a lot!

Antonino, no there's no motor, I was originally planning on eventually installing an additional Z motor but after trying it this way and as long as the 3 wheels on the second Z axis arm are not too tight, the Y axis arm doesn't "bend" when moving up or down.  The idea behind was to stop the back and forth movement the Y axis arm was getting when the X axis was moving fast and transferring vibration to the Y axis.  This vibration was causing a waviness in the print.

No way!!! I wonder if there’s a way we could distribute these to the backers. I’d be willing to help organize if your friend is interested.

I'll need to dig around on my files at home, but I should have the original assembly instructions. If there was a BOM, it should be in there as well.
If Jose and the gang at XMachines were to be believed, there should be lots of parts, but several missing assemblies as well.

Hey Will,

I paid for spare parts a month ago. So far no updates/shipping and not answering your phone.

You are another scammer like XMachines.

Sad to see this in this community.

You posted your phone # 2025310332 here but don't have the courage to answer after you got the money.. Karma is a bitch.

Everyone.. stay away from this SCAMMER that posted spare parts found in storage unit.. above.

Sandro,

What would you recommend for a replacement controller?  Both stepper motor drivers for the extruders have failed.

Thanks, Wade Stewart
