The boats have left the water, but searching for the missing boater will continue this weekend. Boats, jet skies and a helicopter have been in use.
Family Home Burns Halloween Night
A family lost their home and everything in it as they were out trick-or-treating. A single wide mobile home burned in a fire described as one of the worst mobile home fires. It took over four hours for firefighters to put out the blaze. Heather and Shawn Donaldson and their two kids lost everything in the fire, but neighbors and family are stepping up to help.
The Donaldsons were at the Halloween Happening event in downtown DeFuniak Springs when the fire broke out. Family members eventually were able to get with them and as they pulled up, the family met three fire trucks with crews already working the fire. The family had to watch as their home off John White Road and its contents burned to the ground.
Family member Angela Padgett says the Fire Marshal determined it was an electrical short that caused the fire. The family had insurance, but there is a delay in getting the money to find new place to live. The Red Cross is assisting and Padgett says great neighbors and family are also stepping up to help.
If you would like to help, call 892-5323. The family, including a 12-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy are staying in a motorhome. They will eventually need clothes, furniture, kitchen and bedding items and personal items.
