Woman Located
A special needs Okaloosa County resident who had been missing since last week has been located. Authorities report 41-year-old Nadine Bobus of Shalimar left her residence on her bicycle September 15th, saying she planned to visit her boyfriend. Her in-home caretaker became concerned and contacted the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office when Bobus had not returned by the next day. Bobus requires daily medication.
Deputies had been unable to locate Bobus, but after the case starting receiving media attention, they received several credible tips that she had been spotted recently in an area around Fort Walton Beach. Friday, a woman called the Okaloosa Sheriff’s Office to say Bobus was on her pink bicycle near the intersection of North Beal Extension and Lewis Turner Boulevard. Investigator Bob Norris made contact with Bobus a short time later on Racetrack Road. Deputies say she appears unharmed and says she has been saying at someone’s home.
The Sheriff’s Office wants to thank media outlets and the public for their help in assisting law enforcement officers in finding Ms. Bobus and ensuring her safety.
Champ Gets More Help
A guardian angel has arrived for Champ. The Walton Sun says Destinite Woody Hoblitzell owns 14 race horses and was horrified to read of a local horse’s struggle after being found almost dead from starvation. Hoblitzell offered to help with Champ’s care by donating the winnings from his horses’ next win.
Hoblitzell says, when they have a horse that’s done racing, they find a good home for it and check the credentials of potential owners and make sure they have a field where it can graze that’s fenced and all that.
What Hoblitzell did like, though, was the way the community pulled together to help the miniature horse and support him in getting healthy. That is what spurred him to think, “What can I do to help?”
Champ is currently being cared for by Laurie Hood at Alaqua Animal Refuge, where he was taken Aug. 20. Hood reports that Champ’s condition continues to improve and he now sports a shiny black coat and has gained about 30 pounds in the month she has had him. When she first saw Champ on Aug. 20, she says he was so weak that he could not stand on his own.
According to the Sun, Walton County Sheriff’s Office Major Graham Fountain said the case is still open and being investigated. Fountain says they are currently following up on new leads and hope to resubmit to the State Attorney’s Office by Monday. Fountain says the new leads include consulting with a second veterinarian and the Florida Department of Agriculture.

Mid-Bay Bridge Accident
A GMC Sierra was southbound on State Road 293 on the Mid Bay Bridge, while 71-year-old Berthold W. Schliesing was southbound within the paved shoulder.
The GMC driver, 30-year-old Douglas Wayne Rutledge, stated that he dropped a lit cigarette and bent down to pick it up. As he did so, his vehicle drifted into the paved shoulder and struck the bike. The passenger side rearview mirror struck Schliesing. This collision caused the bike to fall over and eject Schliesing.
Rutledge stopped and exited his truck south of the point of impact. The driver, according to the witnesses, conversed with the driver of a silver vehicle behind the GMC, then reenterd the vehicle and fled the scene.
Witnesses provided a detailed description of the GMC and deputies from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office quickly located a suspect vehicle matching this description with fresh damage that matched the traffic crash. A FHP Trooper responded to the location of the suspect vehicle and positively matched the truck to the traffic crash with several physical indicators.
The registered owner was contacted and admitted to having driven during the crash but not knowing that he had struck anything. Rutledge was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Failure to Stay in a Single Lane.
