Cozzie

The case against Stephen Cozzie continues with his attorney asking Judge Wells for a continuance. Cozzie is charged with killing a Georgia teen while she was vacationing in southern Walton County. Assistant State Attorney Bobby Elmore says Cozzie’s attorney, Spyro Kypreos moved for a continuance. The request is to delay the case for at least a year to allow the defense to prepare. Wells set a hearing to consider the request on November 2nd. Elmore says the state will object to the continuance.

Man Charged With Assault

Early Saturday morning WCSO deputies responded to a call for service in the area of Deer Run in DeFuniak Springs. Upon arrival deputies learned that an 11-year-old had been assaulted by 57-year-old Timothy Lee Brewster of DeFuniak Springs. Brewster also threatened harm with a weapon to an adult that had confronted him .

According to information gathered from those on scene, the 11-year-old was asleep on the couch when the victim awoke to Timothy Brewster positioning himself in a lewd and lascivious manner. The child told him no twice and was able to get away from him. Brewster attempted to leave the residence when he was stopped by Greely Brewster.  Timothy Brewster then pulled a knife on Greely Brewster and held it to his “gut”. Timothy Brewster then fled the scene.

The WCSO K-9 unit was deployed to the scene and was able to locate the suspect hiding in the woods not far from the scene.

Timothy Brewster was charged with Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon and Lewd and Lascivious Conduct.  He was transported and booked into the Walton County Department of Corrections.

The vehicle then overturned onto its left side in a ditch. The driver was transported to Bay Medical by Air Heart and is in critical condition. The crash is still under investigation. Charges are pending. Alcohol is not a factor. A seat belt was in use.
