FDLE Arrests Locals For Child Porn
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Northwest Florida Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force today executed two separate search warrants at homes in Okaloosa County, leading to two
unrelated arrests.
71-year old Daniel Loy Byrd of 713 Powell Drive in Niceville is charged with possession of child pornography following an investigation that began in January 2013. In a separate case, 26-year old Samual Mock of 1504 Tommy Lane in Mary Esther is also charged with possession of child pornography. Investigators with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, who are members of ICAC, assisted with the search warrants.
The ICAC Task Force was created to help Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies enhance their investigative responses to offenders who use the Internet, online communication systems, or computer technology to sexually exploit children. The Program is funded by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

Memorial Day
While summer does not begin for several more weeks, the summer vacation season is considered a go this weekend with Memorial Day on Monday. Remember, this is a national holiday and the normal bank, government office and post closings will take place. The FDOT says they have asked contractors to stop work for the higher travel time.
Memorial Day is a time to honor those who gave their life in the military service to our country and served honorably and have passed on. The federal holiday is a time to fly your flag at half-staff, but not for the whole day. According to the flag code, here is how you should display your flag on Monday. The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day. On Memorial Day the flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon only, then raised to the top of the staff. The reason is to raise the flag with honor and then lower to half-staff to show mourning. At noon, when the flag is raised back to the full-staff, this is to show that while America mourns her dead, she also stands strong.
EMS Week
In every corner of our country, emergency medical services (EMS) personnel are hard at work delivering hope and care to Americans in dire circumstances. In the face of chaos and tragedy, their steady hands provide vital, life-saving services, and their calm under pressure delivers comfort to neighbors in need. During this 40th Annual National Emergency Medical Services Week, continuing through the 25th we pause to offer our gratitude to these remarkable men and women, whose dedication is fundamental to our society's well-being.
The theme of this year’s National EMS Week is "One Mission, One Team” This was chosen to recognize the commitment that emergency medical personnel make to the communities they serve and to honor the dedication of those men and women who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line.
“We recognize the tremendous role that our SWFD personnel make to improve health in our community. Recently the State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) conducted a random, unannounced inspection of our EMS Operations. The results were “Excellence in all phases of the inspection”. We are extremely proud of our men and women that make this possible”, said Operations Chief Ryan Crawford.
Fire Chief Rick Talbert says SWFD personnel are committed to delivering emergency medical care in the community. He says they strive for seamless care, from the field to the hospital emergency department or trauma center. Talbert says their commitment to ensuring that patients receive the best medical care available, anytime and anywhere, is instrumental to advancing the health, safety, and well-being of our community. SWFD pledges to maintain this high level of Prompt, Competent, Caring Response in Time of Need he says.

Car Theft/Fire/Red Cross
George Hogan’s Car Lot off South Norwood was broken into and a stolen vehicle is listed as just one of the crime problems. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call Thursday morning around 9 a.m. after a report the gates were knocked down, a vehicle stolen, and some items from the office were taken. Crime scene techs, as well as investigators responded to the scene. The case is still an active investigation.
A fire in the Pleasant Ridge Road area of Bob Sikes and I-10 caused Walton Fire-Rescue and the Forestry Service to work the scene as hot weather and low humidity contributed to the fight. While there has been plenty of rain, the recent low humidity and warmer weather means surface grasses and leftover winter ground litter leaves plenty of ways for a fire to get out of control. With more outside activities and lightning strikes, this time of year becomes a high wildfire time.
With your support they have shipped comfort items containing personal toiletries and relief items including coolers, buckets, gloves, dust masks, trash bags, flashlights, tarps, shovels, rakes and
blankets. Additionally, Red Cross Spiritual Care Teams are working with partners to comfort those affected.
