The Commissioner toured the beautiful, new state-of-the-art technology school and held a round-table discussion with Superintendent Carlene Anderson, Principal Charlie Marello, Assistant Principal Meredith Spence, Director of Facilities Mark Gardner, and Emerald Coast Middle School Parents Advisory Council Team Leaders Diana Kish, Christy Gibson, and Elizabeth O’Brien.
Elizabeth O’Brien said they are very proud of the schools in Walton County, calling them “excellent with a real sense of community”. According to Diana Kish, the energy at Emerald Coast Middle School is contagious. She said Principal Marello and Assistant Principal Spence lead with enthusiasm making it an exciting place to be.
During the round table discussion, Commissioner Robinson asked Anderson what the rest of the State of Florida could learn from Walton County. Anderson replied that they focus all decision making on how it will impact student learning because that is what matters.
Commissioner Robinson stated he was very impressed with Emerald Coast Middle School and Walton County.
Emerald Coast Middle School is the newest school in Walton County and rich in technology. Students are learning through the use of integrated technology on a daily basis including with iPads.
ECMS Principal Charlie Marello says that integrating technology into the everyday lives of students is vital to prepare them for the real-world.
