Review The Proposed Amendments
News Segment 1
Early VotingEarly voting has ended and Walton Supervisor of Elections Bobby Beasley says 10086 or 26% of the registered voters did so early. As of Monday morning they had already canvassed 478 absentee votes, but Beasley says there is still a lot to do. Walton has 38519 registered voters. Beasley notes Pt. Washington had a real heavy early voting turnout with 2690 registered in the precinct and 1059 early voted. Debbie Wilcox-Morris says In Holmes County, the they ended with 2391 registered voters early voting. Holmes has 11560 registered voters as of the book closing.
The polls are open 7am to 7pm Tuesday. There are national, state and local candidates to decide as well as constitutional amendments and judge retention. Beasley says they are expecting a total turnout of 75% to 80%, depending on the weather.
Beasley says his office is advising the voters to acquire the sample ballot and bring it in. He says you can premark the sample ballot. Study the candidates and issues. They want you to use the sample ballot as a guide to help speed up the process and keep lines down. This due to the length of the ballot, two pages front and back. Beasley says voters also need to bring in a signature ID. This can be a driver’s license, state ID, Passport, Military ID, some credit cards with a picture and signature or any other document with a picture and signature. Even if you do not have these, you can still vote with a provisional ballot.
Beasley says there are plenty of ballots and they are ready for 100% turnout. The phone lines have been tested and ready for the election. This means the results should come in quick.

Veteran’s Day
The annual Veteran’s Day ceremony will take place on November 11th at 11:11am at the Magnolia Cemetery Veteran’s Memorial. Local veteran’s groups will participate.
The city and the groups have been working together to hold the annual event, but with Veteran’s Day falling on a Sunday, this year there was some disagreement. The event organizers wanted to hold the ceremony later in the day to allow for church attendance. The veterans came to the council meeting and said they want to stay with the tradition of 11:11 am, feeling that people could decide to go to the event or go to church or churches could change their service. The veterans said it was only one day every few years and the vets should be honored by holding to the tradition.
Veteran’s Day was made a National Holiday, but unlike other federal holidays, this one has a set day, the 11th of November. The time is not set, but traditionally is eleven minutes after the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. The time comes from the signing of the document that ended WWI. The document was actually signed in the early morning, but did not take effect until 6 hours later. The 11:11 am is the time the ceremony takes place at Arlington.
the veterans also asked the Council to consider changing the event from the cemetery to another location. They said the cemetery is more appropriate for Memorial Day when the fallen Veterans are honored. Veteran’s day is for all veterans, those serving, those who have gone on and those who are still alive.

Man Breaks In Falls Asleep
A homeless man who burglarized a Destin home early Monday morning helped himself to a Gatorade from the refrigerator, pocketed car keys and nail polish, and then was found asleep on the victim’s couch when deputies
arrived.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says 37-year-old Joseph Sherman Lacross Jr. is charged with burglary of an occupied residence and theft. Deputies say he went into the home on Mountain Drive through a locked door in the garage. While inside, he took a Gatorade out of the refrigerator and started drinking it. When deputies
arrived around 3:34 a.m., they found Lacross asleep on a sofa in the living room. He had a bottle of the victim’s nail polish in his pockets, along with key rings containing keys to the victim’s car. A flat screen t-v in the living
room and its attached accessories had all been disconnected from the wall.
The victim verified that the tv was completely hooked up, the Gatorade was in the refrigerator, the nail polish was on the coffee table, and the car keys were on the key rack hanging on the wall before Lacross broke in.
