News Segment 1

SHOOTING

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with the Ft Walton Beach Police Department and other local law enforcement entities is aggressively investigating a rash of recent shootings. All evidence and information collected to date indicates none of these shootings are random acts, but are violent confrontations between acquaintances’ or at least individuals who are known to each other. There is no reason to believe a specific threat exists to the general public regarding any of these shootings.

However, the Sheriff’s Office says all of us should be gravely concerned with the ever increasing level of violence on our streets and in our neighborhoods. Accordingly, they strongly encourage anyone with information about any of these shootings or any other crimes to contact the Okaloosa Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division at 850-609-2000 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-8477. Because all of these cases are actively being investigated, no additional details can be released at this time.

Authorities are now seeking 28-year-old Lewis Snow Collins of Geneva, Ala. on an active felony warrant for grand theft, Auto.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of  Lewis Snow Collins is asked to contact HCSO at 547-3681.

BUS FIRE

An early morning bus fire Thursday on Interstate 10 resulted in $50,000 worth of damage to a Greyhound bus.

Bus driver Kenneth Earl Mann, of Jacksonville, was traveling west at the 39 mile marker when he smelled smoke and pulled over.  He discovered a fire had broken out in the back of the bus.

All 37 passengers were evacuated with no injuries.

LANE CLOSURES

Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures on U.S. 331 across the Clyde B. Wells Bridge in Walton County on Friday, July 17 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. as crews place concrete for the new bridge. Flagmen will be on site to safely direct traffic through the work zone.

Large concrete pump trucks will be present on the bridge so drivers are encouraged to use extra caution when traveling through the work zone. All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.

News Segment 4

SPILL/CRASH

A late Thursday morning crash on SR 85 just north of SR 123 resulted in a chemical spill.

State Troopers say 18 year-old Alison Marie Drummer, of Crestview, ran off the road, over corrected and lost control of her vehicle crossing the median striking a Dodge pickup truck pulling a trailer driven by 57 year-old William Christopher Brown of Shalimar.

Brown was carrying 35 gallons of HYDROBURN, a toxic fuel additive. The accident punctured the container spilling approximately 5 gallons of the chemical.  The Okaloosa County Hazardous Material Team responded and secured the container from further leakage. The accident remains under investigation.
