I went to Wyszogrod about 3 years ago, looking for anything 'jewish'.
I found nothing jewish at all.
There is a church that appears to have been partially destroyed and then repaired that may or may not have been once a synagogue. Hard to tell. No real signs such distinctive windows or Mogan Dovids on the outside walls. I did not go in.
There is a museum, and I asked if there was any historical information or artifacts relating to the time when the town was predominantly jewish. There was nothing.
My understanding is that all the gravestones from the jewish cemetery were removed by the Nazis to pave roads. I think the graves are still there, but am not sure about that.
I did walk up and down a few old cobbled streets, many with old broken wooden doorways leading to small passageways into several homes using the same shared roadside entrance. These seem to have been at least pre WW11.
I doubt if there is a single jew living there today. Sad, but true.
Shalom,
Anthony HAMER
PS, at the time my grandfather SIMON HAMER left, in 1900 (exactly), I am not sure if there were any other HAMER's who stayed behind. However, I have traced a few other HAMER's who also lived there, and they were all related to my family. I do not know anything about the town after 1900.

Sure!
If you do it they(we) will come!
Dear Shmuel, Gary and anybody else who may have had members of the BRESLER family in Wyszogrod around the end of the 19th Century:
My paternal GF, Yehuda Laiv BRESLER, a tailor, was from Wyszogrod. I was told that he was one of 5 brothers, one believed to be named Szymon, another named Chaim, with a daughter named Pearl, or Perele, who married late in life to Sam Peterkovsky and lived in the 1940s on Barnes Avenue in the Bronx. Sam belonged to the clothing union and knew Samuel Gompers personally.
Yehuda Laiv was married to Katie (Gittel) COHEN (?), either in Wyszogrod or East London about 1895-1899. They had six children, the oldest being Avrum (Albert), my father, who was born in East London, England in early, 1899. They came to NY by steamship in early 1900. The second child, Dvora, named herself Rose. When she was old enough to go to school, her teacher told her that she had to spell her name with 2 ses in order to pronounce it "Bressler." The other children were named Martin, Sidney, his twin brother (name unknown) who died of diphtheria early in life, and Frances (they called her Fritzie). Yehuda Laiv died in 1926 and Katie in the early 1940s in Suffern, NY. Both grandparents and Martin are buried in the Wyszogrod section of the Washington Cemetery in Brooklyn NY. By the way, Shmuel, one of my nephews, Michael Tucker, in construction, lives in Fountain Valley, CA. Any other information you can supply me about my family would be appreciated.
