I was scouting for the Casper Christmas Bird Count on top of Casper Mountain today. I was just north of the Gothberg Cabin (just south of all the radio towers that are west of Hogadon) when I heard waxwings. I found 45 Bohemian Waxwings in a bare tree. I saw their nice gray front, so they were definitely Bohemian and not Ceder. These are the first Bohemian Waxwings I have seen in the Casper area in several years. I hope we can find them again next Saturday when we have our Casper Count.
I also found a Dusky Grouse near Bart Rea's Cabin, and I found 2 other areas with grouse droppings. Below is a list of what I saw and heard.
1 Dusky Grouse
4 Hairy Woodpeckers
1 Magpie
3 Clark's Nutcrackers
3 Stellar's Jays
4 Mountain Chickadees (there were 3 groups, and probably more chickadees than what I could be sure of)
2 Red-breasted Nuthatch
1 Townsend's Solitaire
45 Bohemian Waxwings
3 Red Crossbills
