When I clicked a thumbnail it wouldn't pull up a picture unless I
first signed up. There were a lot of good thumbnails, so I attempted
to sign up.

Then it wouldn't let me sign up without going through PayPal to get
the premium account. Even though I hadn't yet been able to do anything
as a FREE account I thought it was affordable, so I signed up.

I finally got the account and I got the thumbnails to open. There was
some kind of box about sizing but no instructions about how to use
it. I tried downloading pictures using numbers like 0, 1, 10.... No
matter what I put in all I get when I click Download is a server
error.

"500! Sorry, There was a server error while handling your request."

I looked around for instructions again. Didn't find any. Looked
through the FAQ. Didn't see anything relevant except that to make an
error report or ask a question I have to come here and sign up yet
again for something else.

This site has too many hoops to jump through and nothing to help a new
subscriber figure it out. Frankly I'm frustrated and suspect I've been
had. And yet I see a lot of really good pictures. I've saw Wylio
recommended somewhere as a good site.

How do I get pictures from this site to my blog?

I'm very sorry you are having trouble. After hearing what you went through I can understand why you feel frustrated. I hope I can address your concerns.

You don't need to go through PayPal to get a free account (that's only for signing up for a premium account), but you do need a Google account to login to Wylio. The differences between the free and premium account can be seen in more detail on the pricing page: http://www.wylio.com/pricing

EMBED TAB:

On the embed tab, the "size" slider changes the size of the image. After you moving the slider to the size image you would like, click the "get the code" button. That will provide you with a chunk of HTML code that you can copy and paste into the HTML code of your article. There are also instructions for this underneath the embed code after you click "get the code."

DOWNLOAD TAB:

As a premium user you have access to the Download tab. This is useful for people who would rather download the image instead of copying and pasting the code. On the download tab, moving the size slider changes the size of the image, then when you click "download" it should download the image with the credits added underneath. It sounds like this didn't work correctly for you.

Again, I'm sorry you are having trouble. We will work to make the process easier.

In order to help us track down the server error problem:

Can you tell me what kind of computer you are using (Mac or PC)?
Can you tell me what browser you are using? (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari?)
Do you have the same problem when using a different computer or browser?

Keep in mind your first week as a premium user is free, so you aren't charged anything until after your free week is over.

Thank you for using Wylio!

Thank you for your help! I finally got it to work, just not the way I
thought it would.

I'm using Firefox on a PC. I just got a message that I need to
download a new Firefox, so it's the version that was the newest until
the past couple of days.

I have been middle clicking to open interesting pictures in tabs until
I decide which I want. There is a download button on the tabs but no
scroll bar.

I don't normally use IE but did open it to see what would happen. When
I middle-clicked I got a pop up which did show the sizing scroll
bar.

So I went back to Firefox to see if I could get a pop-up. Left-
clicking the thumbnails there does get the pop-up with the scroll bar,
probably the intended behavior. I can't seem to get to the pop-up
from the tabbed pictures though. I guess I'll have to keep paging
back and forth through the thumbnail results to find the ones I want.

I am very impressed by the number and quality of the pictures. I also
like how the embed code takes care of the attribution for me. Thanks
again!

Hi,

I've been using Wylio for several years now and keep getting this 500 error too.

I've figured out most quirks, but just left this one for a week and came back and same problem.

I'm using a Mac and Safari.

Regards
Genevieve

Hi Genevieve,

Thanks for using Wylio!

Our connection to Flickr is inturrupted whenever their API service goes down. This can cause the error you see.

I just checked Wylio and things seem to be working now.

Are you still getting the server error?
