Greetings to WyGeo -
The USGS recently released some more aerial LiDAR point cloud (LPC) tiles
for Wyoming.
New coverage is of about 178 square miles of southwestern Carbon County
along the Little Snake River and Savery Creek, including the communities
of Baggs, Dixon, and Savery. Also covered are Wyoming Highways 789
and 70 in that region.
These tiles are Quality Level 1 (QL1) data, the highest quality typically
provided by USGS.
A georeferenced PDF map showing the area of the latest releases is
available
here.
The blue area on that map was published on Monday 08 December
2025.
The coverage area already has QL2 LPC coverage from previous projects, so
if you want to use the latest higher-quality data provided at
The National Map
Download make sure "WY Southeast D24" appears in the
name(s) of the tile(s). On Tuesday 25 November 2025 the tiles are
there ready for free downloading using the various selection
methods. Right now the QL1 coverage area does not appear when the
"Show" hyperlink is activated, but that should change in the
next few days. (It has been noted that the Point selection method
is not working properly as of this writing - it either returns an error
message that too many files were selected or does not find anything at
all. Use another selection method.)
Raster (GeoTIFF) one-meter digital elevation models (DEMs) are not yet
available for this new data. Generally USGS delays issuing new DEMs
until after all LPCs in a project are completed and released. The
USGS refers to this project as "WY Southeast D24" and this
project is called "2024 USGS Wyoming Southeast Lidar" on the
US Interagency Elevation
Inventory webpage.

Edited to correct a date, sorry!
