This is still not critical, but I guess we should either fix it or remove this target completely. AFAIK we provide it for consistency with automake-based projects, but as there is no chance of anybody having ever used it successfully due to this bug, maybe we could just drop it?

Of course, if anybody can fix it, it would be even better, but this probably needs to be done at bakefile level — at least until we do something about #23249...
