Another reminder June 20th Friday for Wanderers, my place for overflow if need be (unlikely).
Come early and look around, especially if new to Hawthorne District. 7 pm. Potluck.
A lot of us (including me) always bring the same thing. A well-oiled event as we engineers say.
Speaking of which (engineers): we don't have preset topics and yak about whatever we want, but as an icebreaker I submit this article:
I'm wondering how debate team coaching is changing thanks to AI. What are coaches telling their teams?
I suppose I could ask AI that question.
Teachers are having trouble adjusting, per this article:
https://www.404media.co/teachers-are-not-ok-ai-chatgpt/
That's me excerpting from my outbox to Tara, my daughter and Wanderer, and former Oregon state debate champion (high school, Cleveland Cannibals).
I'm asking her what she thinks chatbots are doing to change the competing debate team vista.
However the article itself (
404media.co) has a wider focus and is about teachers in general being taken by surprise by AI's sudden explosion onto the scene.
I think it's an understatement to say most schools of education did not offer courses on "what to do when AI replaces search as the thing to do when doing research"?
Of course I have my own ideas, don't we all, but let's plan on having that be one of our topics.

On another note, thank you Wanderer Lynne Taylor for inviting us to another fun birthday party at a charming location by a lake-sized pond.
Once we got there (three of us Wanderers in my car) I was glad to relax.
My iPhone literally overheated in its place on my dashboard at a critical juncture when I'd already made a wrong turn.
If it hadn't been for Don Wardwell's phone we'd probably still be out there, plying the scary roads of Greater Beaverton, not only Wandering, but lost (as in: some who wander truly are).
