A police spokesman said: "The victim was racially abused but whether
the motive was racial is not entirely clear. It doesn't necessarily
mean racism was the sole motivation.''
Any time you hear a cop or politician say that even though racial
slurs were used, some attack wasn't "necessarily racially motivated,"
you always know that the victim was white.
The 21-year-old white man was with two friends outside a pizza shop
when the 12-strong Asian gang struck.
A police spokesman said: "The victim was racially abused but whether
the motive was racial is not entirely clear. It doesn't necessarily
mean racism was the sole motivation.''
"The man was stabbed more than once, but we are not giving any further
detail.''
A glass door at the shop at 406 Commercial Road was smashed during the
incident.
A passer-by flagged down police and the victim was taken to The Royal
London Hospital, Whitechapel, with stab wounds and cuts. "We believe
he has now been released,'' said the spokesman.
Eight males, aged between 15 and 24, were arrested in connection with
the incident.
They were bailed pending further enquiries to return to an East London
police station in early April. Police are appealing for witnesses and
information on the attack, which happened at 7.45pm on March 3.
