As an FYI, I'm hosting the test box for the hacking competition and also run HackThisSite, and am a Systems Security Administrator at my day job (where we do use Nessus and Foundstone appliances). If you guys want, I'd like to host a talk on IPS and IDS as well as other attack methods that may be beneficial to current and new participants.
