Greetings Gentleman & Ladies,
Welcome back to WVU! Hope everyone had an eventful summer and got to
do some hacking.
*** A LOOK AT LAST YEAR ***
We conquered a mighty beast... Richard Stallman. That took a lot of
effort and a lot of people to make happen but it was an amazing
success. The video/audio from his talk is available at this address
http://csee.wvu.edu/rms/ in free formats per RMS's request.
What're we going to do that will top that?
*** SPEAKERS AND MEETINGS ***
We've got a lot of plans for upcoming speakers, the first of which
will be Mark Dalrymple (the speaker we hosted from Google
Pittsburgh). Meeting date tentatively planned for September 16th,
5:30pm in 205 MRB. Watch for flyers.
One of his bios can be found here
http://www.bignerdranch.com/instructors/dalrymple_mark
-- Mark has authored several books on Mac based programming /
Objective C and has held his share of interesting jobs including the
server lead for AOL as well as an Objective-C guru at Google.
There's plenty of time passing between now and the first meeting to
visit CS 110/111 classes and spread the word, we're going to need
people to take on that task.
*** FRESHMAN ENGINEER FEST ***
Another important upcoming event is Freshman Engineer Fest. We will
be tabling with ACM on September 1st in the NRCCE. If you have any
interest in helping with this and sharing your 2-cents with the
incoming Freshman, please shoot an email to the list or email one of
us directly.
*** IDEAS FROM YOU! ***
What would you like to see this year? We're not the best planners and
it takes some help from you guys to get things organized. If you have
any ideas on what you'd like to do or speakers/topics you'd like to
see, shoot an email to the list.
We're also looking for the next big fish to come talk @ WVU... maybe
Eric S. Raymond or X? Whomever you guys are interested in hearing...
