Our regional competition is this weekend June 7&8 10am to 7pm Sat and 4pm Sun
In order to give TORC members a leg up in this competition we need to get a bunch of people to fly events for the contest.
eRockets will be opening their doors on Wednesday and Friday nights this week for flyers to come in a build contest rockets. We can start anytime after
5pm and go until as late as 9pm both nights.
What do I need to fly? Here are the events,
The big point getter is C Egg Loft
Duration. Launch an egg and keep it in the air as long as possible. The egg cannot break and we sum 2 flight of your time. The Quest Courier is a good choice for a beginner.
Sport Scale. This can be quite simple, you need a rockets that looks like a real rocket and a copy of your data to prove that it was and what it looks like. I have a copy of Rockets of the World at eRockets that you may note the page number that your rocket is on as your date. We also have the Estes Little John in stock if
you need to build a scale model. As me for the data and I will provide it. If you pick another kit to build be sure you have the data before you paint it. Some kits like the Patriot may ;show the paint detail wrong in the kit. The real Patriots never had a yellow band around the front of the missile.
A Super Roc Duration. The rocket must measure between 75 and 150 cm and fly on an A motor. A good size parachute is recommended. 18" would be good. An A8-5 motor is a fine choice, and a
T-20 tube with 3 fins works fine. If you are experienced with pistons this would be an event to use them. If you skip the draggy launch lug I will have my tower on the field for you to fly out of. You get 2 flights and the scores are added together for your place. At least one of the flights needs to be returned.
1/2A parachute duration. This is another tube with 3 fin models, get it up there and deploy a good parachute. We add the time of both flight together to get your score. Almost
everyone should fly this event, if you have an Estes Alpha III or a Quest Astra 3 you are good to go.
Predicted Duration. This event you write on your flight card the time you expect to get. You may select a time from 30 seconds and up. You only get one flight and no practicing is allowed.
Open Spot Landing. You can fly any rocket and motor with any safe recovery method and land it as close to the pin as possible. You only get one shot at the target and practicing is not allowed. I dare someone to fly this event on a D-G motor!
If you need more advice this forum is a
good one to discuss on, or stop by eRockets on the planned build night.
Also, just because there is a contest going on does not limit sport flyers from attending. Sport flights are allowed. The field has a limit of 3.3lbs rockets or less and nothing larger than a G motor. There will not be a wavier in effect due to the field size.
We will have 2 vendors at the field. eRockets.biz store will be open and also will have Merlin Missiles at the field.
Let me know if you have questions, please pass this along to anyone who may need this information,
