volume control

I noticed on the WVR webapp that there is provision in the 'pins' section to alter the volume of individual notes in the bank by using digital pins. However this is a bit confusing in that in the selection are you can also choose note velocity, and the settings only apply to a particular note. I would like to be able to use chosen D pins to implement volume up and down globally - is there an option for this?

Hi Andrew.
That is confusing. Sorry about that.
This setting in the PINS menu does indeed control the global volume.
I should set up the UI to better convey this information, probably by greying out the note, velocity, and other options that are not relevant when the action is set to Volume, or any of the other utility options, like WiFi control, etc.
There is no way to use a pin to control the volume of a single note, it is only for global volume, I'm sure you will be pleased to hear.

I tried setting global volume on different pins, unfortunately I must be doing something wrong as I cant get it to work. I have added a small headphone amp board TPA6132  https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/392785297190?var=661672296176 with some extra components to adjust gain. I ran the arduino serial midi example sketch with velocity rather than midi note as the variable and it seems that the WVR board implements velocity OK from pppp to ffff.
mezzo forte equates to a velocity of around 50 in my set-up. I am using a artemis apollo @3.3v with the Tx fed straight to midi in on the WVR. The midi V+ is tied to 3.3v. I can run the whole set=up including a mpr121 I2C touch sensor from a 400mah lipo.

Glad all that hardware is working together well!
Have you read through all the documentation? It's likely something in the PINS menu is not set correctly.

edge: falling must be set on each pin to activate it.
You must reset WVR after making PIN menu changes

Each button press on a pin which is set as Volume Down control will reduce the volume by 1% so sometimes several presses are needed to start hearing the difference.

If your issues persist, would it be possible to send a screen cap of the pins menu with the volume pin selected, and maybe a photo of your hardware setup?

thanks it works, but it would function better if it changed volume by say 5 %.

This would be an easy change to make by writing a custom arduino firmware! Let me know if you'd like assistance.

The other thing is I can’t get midi control change messages for volume 7 or expression 11 to work on channel 1  - could this be checked?

Hi Andrew,
I have checked CC 7 and CC 11 and they are working. I am not sure what the issue would be for you.
Note that these CCs only apply to the channel they are sent on, CC 7 on midi channel 1 will only effects midi events sent on channel 1, 2 for 2, etc.
Note also that the volume and expression modifiers are scaled according to the "response curve" that is set up in the WEB UI for any given sample, so if you have ex. inverted square root for a response curve, then the effect of CC 7 will be less obvious until you get into the lower numbers.

Also worth noting that these CCs were only added about a year ago ish. So if for some reason you have a WVR from before that time, its possible you will need to update to the newest firmware. Instructions for how to do that are in the documentation. It only takes a minute to do.
