WH1080 fails startup

Help using a WH1080 station.
Hi everybody.
I'm using (... or better I'm trying to use!) an WH1080 station on a
fresh (and dedicated) Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS with wview version 5.19.0
(installed using apt-get).
The first problem I found was that the station was recognized as a
Dream Link USB Missile Launcher.
I updated usb IDS (update-usbids) and now the system think to the
station as a "Bus 002 Device 002: ID 1941:8021 Dream Link WH1080
Weather Station / USB Missile Launcher".
But the problem (I think) is that the station is still show as a
hiddev.

If I force the sistem from the web interface to use the WH108o and
then I restart the system i have these messages:

I'm seeing a similar problem with the WH1080. But I have a bit more
info:

I was running fine for about 2 weeks, and then about 24 hours after I
updated security and misc patches to the system, I can no longer keep
wview running.

I had a similar problem a few days ago. I was about to write to the
list, but then I did something that fixed it. Someone should add this
solution to the FAQ.

When you get a "read data block failed!" you need to unplug the weather
station from your computer and pull the batteries. Leave it off for a
few seconds then reconnect everything. I think that I then rebooted the
wview server, but I'm not sure. I did restart the wview server though.
It worked for me and I hope that it works for you.

I'm thinking that this is because the station somehow became
miss-synched. When a block was read, it wasn't at the beginning of the
block as it should. Every time the data is read, it isn't correct.
(wview should compensate for this condition.) Anyway, I think that
unplugging the station resets it so that it is then synchronized again.

I was not so lucky: I've tried your solution but nothing change.
I've also tried to unplug the station and connect it to an XP box with
easy weather and the system worked perfectly.
Next try will be to reinstall the system using ubuntu 10.04 without
any update and test again.

This solution did work for me.   Unfortunately, my weather station is fairly remote from my day to day activities, and I can only get to it once every few weeks.   But at least there is a solution.

Ok I've reinstalled the system (ubuntu 10.04) from scratch, install
ntp, apache2, sqlite and php.
Then I install again wviw 5.19.0 using apt-get.
Nothing changes :-(.

Of course the sensors are well received and present on the console
display!

Then I tried again with an XP box using easyweather and cumulus and it
works.

Then i try to install a new debian 5.0 but nothing changes! As soon as
i configure the system to use the ws1080 and issue an /ect/init.d/
wview restart it fails with the following output:
