FYI:

If you follow the instructions in the current Mac OS X Quick Start
guide, you will end up installing wview 4.0.1 as that is what macports
has currently.

I'll let folks know how I convince it to find the later version.

Yes. I apologize for that. I submitted updated ports over three weeks
ago for v5.6.0, and I've continued to update the ports with subsequent
releases. Very slow response in getting the updates committed.

I'm looking in to getting commit rights for new portfiles so I can
post them as soon as new versions of wview are released, but that may
take a while too.

In the meantime, you can create a local port directory to access the
latest version of radlib and wview via MacPorts.

No worries.

I'm using Brooks instructions. It's not the absolute latest version
but hopefully it gets things up and running.

I just uploaded portfiles for the latest versions to the Files area.
It's called "ports.zip".

Hey Mark or Broooks, how do I specify that I want ports to use the
local repository? The later versions show up in the port list
function but I can't seem to convince it to use the latest version.

Cheers.

Hmm. The local ports show up first in the list for me (e.g., if I do a
port list wview, the local one shows up first in the list). Since
they're showing up, I guess you must have run the "portindex" command.

In your /opt/local/etc/macports/sources.conf file, do you have the
local ports specified first?

My file looks like this:

# MacPorts system wide sources configuration file
# $Id: sources.conf 42662 2008-11-28 23:18:50Z rai...@macports.org $

# To setup a local ports repository, insert a "file://" entry
following
# the example below that points to your local ports directory:
# Example: file:///Users/landonf/misc/MacPorts/ports
file:///Users/mbclark/Documents/ports

# The default MacPorts repository should always be tagged [default]
# for proper functionality of various resources (port groups, mirror
# sites, etc). If you switch it from the rsync:// URL, be sure to
keep
# it tagged [default].

# To prevent a source from synchronizing when `port sync` is used,
# append [nosync] at the end as shown in this example:
# Example: file:///Users/landonf/misc/MacPorts/ports [nosync]

# NOTE: The port command parses source URLs in order and installs the
# first occurrance when a port appears in multiple
repositories.
# So keep "file://" URLs above other URL types.

# To get the ports tree from the master MacPorts server in
California, USA use:
# rsync://rsync.macports.org/release/ports/
# To get it from the mirror in Trondheim, Norway use:
# rsync://trd.no.rsync.macports.org/release/ports/
# A current list of mirrors is available at http://trac.macports.org/wiki/Mirrors
rsync://rsync.macports.org/release/ports/ [default]

No worries, figured it out...I had put the file:/// line in at the end
of the file, but it needed to be before the rsync line in order to
take precedence.

Looks like everything is installed...
note: The previous installation had only created an /opt/local/etc/
wview and no /var/wview ... the ports installer died because the /etc/
wview existed. So I had to remove it first (removed both to be sure)
and ran the port install again and it was happy. I'm using your php
+apache instructions and it looks like it's all working.

I'm just configuring it and I'll put in my previous archives and see
how it works out.

I'll check back in soon.

Thank you both for your help.

Ya it's going pretty well... I'm getting a strange error from htmlgend
though, the last 3 lines, then it doesn't seem to get any farther:

One minor bug found:

The new port for mysql5 installs "mysqlimport5" rather than
"mysqlimport" which is what wview expects plus, wview expects
mysqlimport to be in a standard directory so I made

> sudo ln -s /opt/local/bin/mysqlimport5 /usr/bin/mysqlimport

and it seems happy.

Still getting an error with htmlgend though. The rest of the
processes seem fine.

I may have found something?

When I run the wviewhtmlconfig script it runs and says it is successful, but I noticed it actually is producing an error:

classic
Site skin classic selected...
With extended data graphics.
With metric units.
Saving old HTML directory to html-20091108.174846 ...
...done.
Saving old config files...
... done.
usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file target_file
       cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file ... target_directory

HTML setup complete:
you may now customize template files in /opt/local/etc/wview/html

I notice in the script itself it is using -r not -R  I'm going to modify the script and see what happens...

*dives in head first*

The line creating the error in the script is approx line 164 in wviewhtmlconfig (bolded)

  if [ -d $WVIEW_CONF_DIR/html/$SITE_SKIN/static ]; then

        cp -rf $WVIEW_CONF_DIR/html/$SITE_SKIN/static/*.* $HTML_DESTINATION

    fi

However, if I'm reading it right... it should be simply copying the files in classic/static (in my case) to /opt/local/var/wview/img

I have done that manually and am receiving the same error... so looks like I'm following a red herring...

Success!

The error was in my configuration. The default /usr/local....
directory was specified still... once I changed it to the /opt/local
path for os x the wview script worked and htmlgend is now generating
away.

Overall, a much improved installation process!

Thank you Mark and Brooks!
