I grew dissatisfied with my bolt-on approach, and went ahead and did the
work to integrate Weather Underground Rapid Fire into wview itself.
It is available for download (git not necessary) from
https://github.com/jgoerzen/wview
I will intend to keep this up-to-date relative to Mark's releases. I
further will do any future work I may do on wview here before bundling
up patches to send to Mark (for the ones he wants).
This repo also contains a small fix to the datafeedClient, which I have
submitted to Mark.
I unwittingly stepped into a hornet's nest with my post earlier today,
so I would like to clarify a few things this repo and I am NOT:
1. I do not intend to maintain wview. It's Mark's project. I don't
have the time and experience anyhow.
2. I do not intend to "compete" with wview. This should be a branch
that has patches in staging to go to Mark, or patches that I want but
Mark doesn't. That is all. I will not be making releases, etc.
3. I will not be acting as a patch integrator for others. If you want
to fork my github repo and make your own, that's fine, but I am not
planning to do that. This is not a generic "patches other people than
John want" repo.
4. I am doing this because I like wview enough to spend some time
improving it. I'm not doing it because I think it (or Mark) sucks.
5. I will work to feed patches to Mark in whatever way he likes, subject
to his desire to have them, in an effort to make the diff from Mark's
tree to mine as small as possible. If the diff becomes empty, that will
be great.
Does that sound acceptable to everyone? If not, I'm willing to change
to work best with this community.
