I am getting a very large number of error messages of the form shown below in /var/log/messages, which may be related to the problem I wrote about a while ago, that nothing is being written in the archives, which is the directory  /var/www/html/wview/Archive/ is always empty.

Replace the batteries - reboot everything :-)

This sure looks like good advice, but it doesn't work. I
1. stopped wview
2. unplugged the Davis Pro2 console from AC power
3. took out a battery from the console
4. counted to 10
5. put the battery back in
6. plugged in the console
7. ran through console setup (most settings were still correct)
8. started wview
The messages continue as before, and /var/www/html/wview/Archive is
still empty, so "Browse Day Records" always produces a page with "Error
404 Not Found".

What am I missing?

Thanks - jon

Clear the VP console archive memory using vpconfig. In fact, you may
want to use vpinstall for initial setup. See the User Manual for details.

Just tried that without good results.  /var/log/messages from about the time wview was restarted is attached.

I'm pretty sure that's what I did.  Of course a lot of water has run over the dam since then.

I tried the experiment of taking unplugging the VPro2 console for a couple of hours, and got different results than before, though not actually better.  Now the errors read:
May 14 20:41:29 weather wviewd[1585]: <1337053289573> : StoreArchiveRecord: record has earlier timestamp than previous (DST change?)
An extract from /var/log/messages is attached as wview-messages.

I tried invoking "$ vpconfig /dev/ttyUSB0 cleararchive" but things did not improve.  Now the messages are (as before the reset):
May 11 15:53:00 weather wviewd[3815]: <1336776780737> : vproRunState: you may need to cycle power on the console(including batteries) to resolve this condition.
A similar extract is attached as messages.

I think these problems arose when I replaced the fan on the computer that I'm using to run wview, in which process the hardware clock got set to Dec 10, 2002.  And then reset to the current time when I noticed the wrong time (after wview had been running for a while) and enabled a timeserver.  All this time shifting seems to have fried something in the VPro console.

Any help will be much appreciated - jon

sounds like there is still bad archive data in the console's data logger. it's a dumb question but needs to be asked: did you take the batteries out too. if so, try disconnecting from ac power, removing the batteries, and putting the batteries in backwards momentarily, then putting it back together again

alternatively (and i haven't tried this either) in wview 5.20 i believe you can disable the whole read-the-archive-records part of startup

Yes.  I took all the batteries out, though taking out one should do the job, and left the system unpowered for about 2 hours.

Does anyone know what the consequences of this are.  Is it possible to preserve my archive, or should I try to reinitialize everything: reinstall wview, completely clear the console (how?).  Does anyone have a clue what's going on?

Thanks - jon
