No copy on CW or FT8 here in the Pine Bluff , WV Valley!.  One question though.  What flavor of FT8 are they running?  Normal, F/H, or super F/H? Also no seeing them spotted on VE7 reflector or DX Summit.

Larry,

It is regular FT8.  NOT F/H and NOT SuperFox.  They are using some derivative version of WSJT-X (like MSHV) and not WSJT-X itself.

You can work them just like you would any normal FT8 station.  No need to transmit above 1,000 Hz.

Search for KP5/NP3VI on DX Summit and you will see lots and lots of spots (as of 0400 GMT.)

They plan to operate for 30 days so there should be plenty of chances for everyone.

From their Press Releases:

To ensure continuous, global on-air presence, two self-sustained Remote
Deployable Units (RDUs) provided by the Manyana DX Foundation will be
deployed on the island. These stations will operate 24 hours a day for
30 consecutive days, utilizing state-of-the-art remote operating infra-
structure from Remote Ham Radio (RHR).

Here is their FB page:  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61585525894897

in a nutshell, the government was clear there cannot be anyone on the island once the setup is made. All equipment and people need to be completely clear from organic material that could alter the ecosystem. No generators only green generation, no people, no yagis just verticals that don't need guy wires. It's a miracle that the activation is happening. There will be many challenges and perhaps the ham community will appreciate the huge effort behind it and the commitment of activating desecheo for many dxers.
