QTH Work

I lucked out and found a local group of young men to help me with some needed QTH maintenance here.  Yesterday and today we did some work on the place. 

Yesterday they mowed and weed-eated. The gutters were cleaned and debris was blown off the roof. 

Today we removed a BIG tree that died and was posing a threat to the house and my 2m EME array.  One end of my 80M dipole was anchored in the top of this tree.   Since the tree had to go, I am now temporarily without a 80M antenna.  The tree had to be removed in several pieces starting high and leaving the trunk for last.    The guys knew what they were doing, this was not a job for a novice.  

This afternoon the climber dealt with my 6M array obstruction from another tree.  I have trimmed it a couple of this with a manlift by myself.   This time, he climbed the tree to do the trimming.   This worked great and the problem limbs were removed.   Now I can point NE without worry about the elements getting tangled in the tree.  

It was good to get these jobs done. 

I should have a lot less RF absorption from trees in the NE direction now. 

While others were dealing with the trees, another was trimming my hedges and cleaning up some previously fallen trees on the south side of my hill. 

This was  a productive weekend that was triggered by  chance encouter.  I missed the  Lincoln County hamfest on account of it, but the work must be done when the help is available. 

One of the older gents (still a very young man) works for a tree company.  In fact, he is a supervisor.  Very skilled. the other older fellow works for a cell tower company building towers and doing maintenance.    He is soliciting side work and gave me the OK to post his name and phone ## here on the Reflector.  He has the safety equipment needed to do tower work. 

The tower climber is Tristen Scott and his phone is 304 410 7207. Tristen is very pleasant to deal with and I can vouch for his work ethic.   He works on 300' cell towers so our ham towers are not an issue for him.   Save his name and number. 

Tomorrow I will put up a temp 80M antenna to use while a  permanent antenna is considered. .

Its good to hear you are getting things accomplished Charlie.  It is also good to see you back on the reflector.  We have had a few trees removed here and I agree- unless the remover knows what they are doing it can be a bad situation.  Fortunately Beckie's nieces husband has a tree business in Morgantown.  He and his crew do excellent work.  Unfortunately I don't know of any tower climbers around here except for my friend from my last job and he is getting up there in age and I'm not sure how much longer he will be doing any climbing.  

Good luck on getting the 80 meter antenna up and going.

Thanks for sharing the info Charlie. I need to strip some damaged antennas from way back when the deresacho , what was that 2012 ?
