Bob ZL1RS will be back at YJ0 for another try at moonbounce around the end of Sept/early October. He hopes to have better luck on this trip. Lost his amplifier on his last try.
Bob relates there are issues with his location. Blockages and noise from his landlord. However, he is a pro and may be able to work around some of these problems. I will certainly be there when he goes QRV. If we can work him, it will be #180.
Bob has a single 8 element yagi, elevation up to 50 degrees and power. This is likely to be tough because of his problems.
Everything was in my favor with H40GJ and this one will be fairly favorable on my end, but it is problematic on his end.
One huge bit of luck was with me last time, local noise level. My noise was so low that we could run the LNA along with preamp 1 in the IC-7610. This is seldom possible due to local noise. Today in that direction it would be detrimental, as it turns the
waterfall color light blue instead of dark blue, and puts a white noise band above the blue across the waterfall. The S meter reading is steady S4 to 5. With H40GC, the white line was gone or minimal, and the S meter was peaking about S 2.5 to S3. This
was the setup for hearing XV9 when no one else in the USA was copying him.
XV9T was running a single yagi with no elevation, so my local noise was the major factor in hearing him.
He was near moonset and my antenna was at 8 degrees elevation. I don't think we would hear him today.
