Hi Folks,

How much was donated to Empty Bowls from this last mountaineer open tournament in Jan, 2023 ? I looked at YCF and wvchess and could not find anything listed.

I hope we can have some future tourneys where 75% or 80% of the registrations money goes back to the players in the form of prize fund and it would be lovely to have some speed blitz tournaments where the time control is 5 mins.

cheers
Rick

PS. I tried sending this to wvchess@googlegroups and I reckon I am not allowed to post to this group.

I can address some of this, and @Bob Greer will have to address the food pantry.  I think the donation to food pantry was either from wvu chess club of Harrison county chess club or something like that.

In regards to prize money. I think most of us try to pay out around 60-70% give or take.

By the time payment for a site (even if it is a donation), ratings fees, and making sure we have various type of supplies such as scoresheets, paper, pens, etc. It is hard to get to 80%.

I manage the wvchess Google group which geared towards scholastic chess.  I have that group locked so only a few people can post to it.

Best Regards,

Oh joy! A self-righteous, Social Justice Warrior!

How much money have you donated so far this year?

Have you even played chess in the last twenty years?

The supply of speed games will met demand, as it is now.

Just to be clear: I resent receiving this drivel in my inbox & I resent your tone.

Hi Bryon,

A techno Hippie not social justice warrior

Close to $1000 donated last couple months

I've played about 6-7 tourneys since 2015 (sans covid)

Speed is fun !

You resent what you fail to perceive and transparency is not a tone.

I will donate 10 ($300) tourney entries for the upcoming mountaineer open. Let Bob know if you want to use one.

Bob, I'll give you the money Sunday.

Greetings to All,

I would like to propose an idea that could potentially benefit our local chess community. As many of you are aware, a number of students from our school have been traveling to national and international chess tournaments, and their travel expenses are covered by the school administration through donations.

I believe that we, as a chess community, can come together to create a "honey pot" for students who wish to participate in these tournaments. By pooling our resources and providing financial support to these students, we can ensure that their travel expenses are fully covered, and their parents are not burdened with the costs.

This initiative would help promote the sport of chess and encourage more students to participate in tournaments, regardless of their financial situation. Additionally, it would foster a sense of community and collaboration among local chess enthusiasts, creating opportunities for networking and building relationships.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this proposal and welcome any suggestions on how we can make it a reality. Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of our young chess players and help promote the sport that we all love.

Thanks,

Jignesh

Greetings to All,

I would like to propose an idea that could potentially benefit our local chess community. As many of you are aware, a number of students from our school have been traveling to national and international (soccer, science bowl, robotics etc) tournaments, and their travel expenses are covered by the school administration through donations. But chess tournament is not part of this in most schools in WV.

Any WVCA member can attend our business meeting and make proposals for how we use the membership dues we collect. We have given some money in the past for similar purposes. I don’t know how helpful we can be, but bring it to the meeting and we’ll see what we can do. If you can’t attend and want it brought up, send it to offi...@wvchess.org and I’ll have it addressed.
