Invalid volume name length

I'm trying to label some 3570XL cartridges with the command
label libvolume ... labelsource=prompt
When I try to specify the label using a string like TAPEARCH01,
it's issued the following error message on the tsm console:
...
ANR8817E - Name length for volume TAPEARCH01 invalid; max is 6;
...
Is there a fixed limit for the label name? Is it specific for this
kind of cartridge?
TSM version is 3.7 and the op.sys. is AIX 4.3.3.
